Batman V Superman!

Batman V Superman is an upcoming 2016 movie from DC Comics in which (spoiler alert) an armored Batman battles against Superman whom he considers a menace to mankind. But those two fighting each other is nothing new; Batman versus Superman is in fact an old theme that has been used many times before. For example World’s Finest #119 from 1961 answered the question, what is more awesome than Batman? Answer-Batman riding a T-Rex and warring with Superman in ”Battle of the Super-Heroes!”

In 1965 World’s Finest #153 documented “The Clash of Cape and Cowl!” They became bitter enemies and Batman tries to kill Superman with a Kryptonite Batarang.  Not an imaginary story! Plus it includes this wonderful panel inside. 

World’s Finest #209 from 1972 Batman once again attacks Superman, this time with Red Kryptonite; the unpredictable element has changed Superman into a giant Super-Ape. Bonus points for having a Gorilla cover!

Flash-forward to March 23, 2016, once again Batman is fighting Superman in the new movie Batman V Superman-Dawn of Justice. Bruce Wayne blames Superman for the destruction caused in Metropolis when Superman fought General Zod in the last movie. Plus Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash are also in BVSDOJ. This is a Justice League movie! Here at the Strangest Adventures, we hate the idea of Ben Affleck as Batman but this movie looks great and it will be required watching. See you at the movies!

Supergirl!

The Strangest Adventures has covered the wildly successful Flash TV show, now Greg Berlanti, creator of that show and Arrow, has created two more comic book based shows. The first one is Supergirl, which debuts on CBS on September 26^th, 2015. I’ve seen the pilot already, got it at this years Awesome Con. Thankfully this is not another Smallville, a show that took 10 seasons before the hero gets into costume-in the last 20 seconds of the show! In the pilot Supergirl is in costume long before the end of the first episode. Melissa Benoist plays Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. I won’t spoil the show by revealing too much but the show includes Superman’s associates such as Cat Grant, Lucy Lane, and Jimmy Olsen, and his enemies such as Vartox, Reactron, Live Wire and Hellgrammite. Superman is only seen as a streak in the sky and the producer says he won’t appear otherwise on this show. Fans are hoping for a crossover between Supergirl and Flash and Arrow but so far, no confirmation of that but they are combining promotions for both shows in Variety so it’s a start.

The next show will air in January 2016, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, a spin off of The Flash and Arrow. A diverse group of heroes and villains help time traveling Rip Hunter fight the immortal Vandal Savage, in an adventure that spans time and space, to save the human race from destruction. Characters include The Atom, Firestorm, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, White Canary,  Captain Cold and Heat Wave. I’ll let the video tell the rest of the story.

This may be silly to some of you but the Strangest Adventures are looking forward to these shows, sure beats reality TV!
