The Strangest Adventures-80 Page Giant!

At the recent 2013 CPAC, a casually attired Sarah Palin gave a speech that was as much or more Redneck Comedy Tour than political speech. Of course, in my opinion Sarah Palin will never run for office again, (too much work and she’s much too thin skinned) so perhaps this new stand up routine is a good new direction for her. At one point she drank a Big Gulp, made a joke about NYC Michael Bloomberg and his attempted large soda ban, holding her hefty beverage aloft, like the torch of Lady Liberty. Hey, sure, why not, Sarah

I don’t have much to say about Canadian born Latino from Texas Ted Cruz yet; he seems a bit delusional and, ahem, unpolished. Ted Cruz is  under 50 and is being proclaimed by some pundits as the future of the Republican Party. Sarah Palin claims he won entirely because of her support. Not sure if that’s good or bad, bad I suspect. Of course, it’s even more likely that his connections with several tea parties and Freedom Works and the out of state money they brought to his campaign were greater factors in his win for office in 2012.

Rand Paul is the son of Ron Paul, a favorite candidate for many that have read this blog. Rand is another devotee of Ayn Rand, but he seems less affable and not as wise as his father, however all indications are he will be running for president in 2016. He won the straw poll at the recent 2013 CPAC, but the winner of that poll has only won as president twice since the 1980’s. Ooops.

The fourth story illustrates a longstanding belief of the Republican Party that higher taxes destroy the economy and only low taxes build the economy. Only in reality, there’s not so much confirming data there. Sometimes the economy does well during a time of high taxes and sometimes doesn’t, the same for times of low taxes. The economy, it seems, it a lot more complex than a few black and white answers.

I always loved the old DC Comics 80 Page Giants of my childhood because the 80 Page Giant had more content per issue; They were released annually, this is my attempt to create one on my own.

The Dumber Games!

Ex Governor of Alaska and failed candidate for Vice President Sarah Palin is no stranger to The Strangest Adventures. Her fractured commentary about Paul Revere’s ride were a strong factor in motivating this blog– if politicians are going to speak as though they are two-dimensional cartoons they should be depicted as cartoons! Mostly though, all things considered, Palin is largely ignored regarding political matters these days because she holds no office, even quitting the last office she was elected to, and at this late juncture, still hasn’t sided with any particular candidate though she had nice things to say about Newt. Is she still a politician because in the past she won as mayor and governor even though she is (we contend) very unlikely to ever subject herself to another election? Who can say for sure?

Which brings us to what must surely be the single most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard anyone utter on TV. She was on Fox News’ Hannity March 8, 2012 when, in response to a video showing a younger Barack Obama hugging “radical” professor Derrick Bell, she said, “Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake that took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.”

This is just an excerpt but can you spot what’s wrong here? She is suggesting that a black president wants to return this nation to an era when black people were slaves! This has to be the most moronic assertion by anyone in the public eye in this century! Dumb and dumber! She also opined that Obama had no valor, whatever that means, and that the four remaining GOP candidates were patriots. I looked into that; only Ron Paul served this nation in any capacity, Newt’s deferments when his nation needed him are the opposite of patriotism. As for Obama’s reaction, his supporters are using this as campaign fodder. Funny? You betcha!

I attempted to give Ms. Palin a bit of a popularity upgrade by putting her on the cover of the very popular book “The Hunger Games” (the movie of the first book opened to great acclaim this last weekend). But instead herein is a parody of that book. Here at The Strangest Adventures, this is as close as we get!

The Obama-Palin Debate of 2012!

Can this ever happen? Will Sarah Palin ever declare her candidacy for the office of President of the United States? Well, she gave an impassioned speech this last weekend in Iowa; she was the keynote speaker at the Tea Party of America’s “Restoring America” rally.
I caught the beginning, she oozed energy and confidence, Obviously she had practiced and though I disagreed with much of what she said, she did well in delivery, her content broke no new ground and made me realize; given the current slate of candidates, perhaps Sarah Palin is no longer the craziest person in the room!
Aside from recent bus trip shenanigans, Governor Palin has, since 2008, been in the business of promoting Sarah Palin by promoting her books, her reality show, and her stint as Fox News political pundit. In 2010, she became “involved” with the race for the GOP to take the House of Representatives by supporting certain candidates, which she felt held to high tea party standards. By the numbers, Palin did well in supporting candidates that won with several notable exceptions, included her hand picked Alaskan protégé Joe Miller-defeated by write in votes! -And Christine “I am not a witch” O’Donnel!
On to the matter at hand, I suspect this scenario of an Obama Versus Palin debate, will remain the realm of fantasy; it seems to me Sarah Palin relishes her role as media attention grabber, self promoter, king maker. I don’t think she is ready, nor may ever be, for the rough and tumble world of presidential politics, or the pay cut!  I hope she is smart enough to realize how badly the general public will receive her!

The Strangest Adventures T-Shirts!

If you are still reading at this point, perhaps you enjoy this type of humor enough to want a The Strangest Adventures T-Shirt. I’ve tried to include the main candidates in the 2012 Presidential election in this homage to the Justice League/Justice Society/All-Star Squadron team-up of the 1980’s, Crisis on Earth Prime. This is my first “official” foray into T-Shirt design, aside from home printed and applied iron-ons for myself and others, an early noble design experiment. I would appreciate any feedback, positive or negative, that anyone could provide. And note, I have provided inexpensively priced shirts for the tight of budget as well as premium style shirts. Wear this shirt to tell others you think the candidates are as much of a freak show as I see them to be, well at least in my fevered imagination! Your support would be appreciated; this would supplement my meager earnings from freelance work.

Paul Revere's Ride, Revised!

Everyone must know by now of Sarah Palin's infamous retelling of the story of Paul Revere's Ride. It was a hot day, maybe she got confused; OK, I'm being kind. I mean come on, every school child knows what happened. I am utterly floored that anyone with such a distorted view of history should be in the public eye. The worst part is, later, when asked by Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace, "you realize you messed up about Paul Revere, don't you?" , she replied "Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you're not going to succeed. You're not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have," she added. "He did warn the British."Sad. I almost feel remorse for poking fun at her. Almost.

Palinpalooza!

Ah, Sarah Palin, the gift that keeps on giving. She really tickles my funny bone more than any other politician on the scene today. She was recently on a bus trip to see America, and she really got my attention when she said This Statute of Liberty was gifted to us by foreign leaders, really as a warning to us, it was a warning to us to stay unique and to stay exceptional from other countries. Certainly not to go down the path of other countries that adopted socialist policies”.  Really? Who writes this stuff? So, I was inspired to do this piece, based on the cover to Strange Adventures, #153. Feel free to share this with friends
